Testimony of Karoly Spy & Steven Galibert
Karoly SPY, a coach specializing in endurance sports, is passionate about the scientific approach to training and exercise physiology. As an athlete himself, he combines his personal practice, his on-field coaching experience, and scientific knowledge to offer the best to athletes (amateur and professional), whom he has supported in their performance projects for over 20 years.
Steven Galibert, a 32-year-old swimming instructor from Tarn and a member of AS Monaco Triathlon, won the Ironman Nice on June 16, 2024, in a time of 8 hours, 40 minutes, and 14 seconds. This victory qualified him for the legendary Ironman Hawaii, which he competed in October 2024.
A day of tests in preparation for the Lanzarote triathlon with Karoly Spy and Steven Galibert
Karoly was contacted by PAIRFS to present the ZoneX product which allows the measurement and monitoring of ventilatory thresholds.
Karoly immediately offered to do a test day with Steven Galibert to prepare for the Lanzarote triathlon.
A complete and enriching test day
A day rich in lessons using an innovative test to understand how the body functions during prolonged exercise (5 hours) in order to improve endurance performance.
The protocol began with 3 hours of cycling at 86% of critical power, during which we performed a test to determine the SV1 and SV2 ventilatory thresholds, supplemented by 3 SV1 assessments and 8 lactate samples. We then continued with 2 hours of running at 90% of critical speed, including a test to determine SV1 and SV2, 2 SV1 assessments, 3 RER measurements, 5 lactate samples and monitoring of stride parameters (cadence, ground contact time, etc.).
The aim of all these tests was to monitor the evolution of metabolic parameters and their degradation over time.
Many thanks to Steven GALIBERT for allowing me to live this experience as a coach, and to Pierre JALLON for his support throughout the day and for helping us in carrying out the SV1-SV2 determination tests as well as monitoring metabolic degradation thanks to his new ZoneX mask integrating an exhaled air analysis system.
